HP iPAQ features Windows Mobile 5.0 Direct Push Technology wireless email system

HP today introduced the HP iPAQ hw6900 Mobile Messenger series, a smart device giving customers the ability to instantly receive email wirelessly, using new push-email functionality featured in the Messaging and Security Feature Pack (MSFP) for Windows Mobile 5.0. HP iPAQ hw6900 customers will be able to access and manage business and personal information without the need for additional email middleware software or expense.

The sleek HP iPAQ hw6900 Mobile Messenger gives customers the freedom to choose how they connect by featuring a variety of wireless technologies including wireless voice, high-speed GPRS/EDGE (Enhanced Data rates for Global Evolution) data networking, Wi-Fi, GPS technology and Bluetooth. With both integrated Wi-Fi and GPRS/EDGE technology, the HP iPAQ hw6900 provides users with affordable connectivity, whether in a Wi-Fi hot zone or over a mobile network.

“Busy professionals can work more flexibly while on the move by taking advantage of any one of the six wireless connectivity options included in powerful HP iPAQ 6900 Mobile Messenger,” said Neil Dagger, Handheld and Wireless Device Business Manager, HP UK and Ireland. “With real-time, wireless email, voice and fast data access, our customers can be more productive and increasingly mobile with fewer devices to carry.”

Secure and ‘in the know’ when ‘on the go’
Using new Direct Push Technology in Windows Mobile 5.0, HP iPAQ hw6900 series devices are automatically sent new emails, calendar items, tasks or contacts, wirelessly. The Windows Mobile 5.0 operating system creates an improved Outlook Mobile experience, enhanced device and data protection – including the ability to remotely wipe all device data – all without the need for businesses to deploy costly middleware servers and software.

Enhanced device and data protection ensures end-to-end secure, cost-effective mobile messaging solution deployment. With the new Messaging and Security Feature Pack for Windows Mobile 5.0, customers do not need third-party middleware additions. They can use their existing Exchange servers for an easily manageable and scalable mobile email solution.

“The iPAQ hw6900 series combines powerful Windows Mobile software with continued innovation from HP to give business professionals a compelling all-in-one phone,” said Suzan DelBene, corporate vice president, Mobile and Embedded Devices Division at Microsoft Corp. “The combination of Direct Push Technology and Microsoft Outlook Mobile included in Windows Mobile gives users immediate access to all the information they need to stay on top of their jobs while away from their desk.”

Ideal travel companion with built in navigation
Built-in GPS Navigation, powered by TomTom provides customers with directions at their fingertips – whether they are in the car, on the bus, or on foot. Integrated turn-by-turn navigation to nearby restaurants, hotels, airports, cinemas, petrol stations, museums and many other points of interest (POI) makes the iPAQ hw6900 the ideal travel companion.

“The continuing partnership between TomTom and HP most recently resulted in the HP iPAQ hw6900 being pre-installed with TomTom navigation software. Thanks to integrated WiFi and ‘find your closest hotspot’ services from TomTom, users will always find access to the internet in Europe and the U.S.” said Harold Goddijn, TomTom’s Chief Executive Officer.

TomTom PLUS currently offers several WiFi hotspot sets, as well as JWire Hotspots - the world’s largest WiFi community, for Europe (over 29,500 hotspots) and USA (over 27,000 hotspots), available as a subscription. Additional maps and valuable services, such as dynamic traffic information and weather updates are available from TomTom’s website.
