Extracts from larger article
The eyes of the mobility world are turning to Barcelona for the 3GSM World Congress, one of the largest mobile service provider industry events of the year.

3GSM is all about mobile services – and the mobile services value chain, from the core elements of network and operations systems themselves to the 'edge' of the network, the wireless devices that consumers use in their everyday lives, and the services and personalized content that make them exciting.

CEOs, CIOs, and other decision makers can learn more about HP's entire end-to-end mobility spectrum – ranging from carrier-grade platforms, mobile network software and solutions, operations support systems, billing, and mobile applications to the wireless laptop, tablet PC or iPAQ pocket PC.

HP is leveraging 25 years of expertise in both telecom and IT to lead the mobile industry. The HP mission is to help its customers – the world’s mobile equipment and service providers – achieve the twin goals of 1) generating new revenue through personalized, content-rich services and 2) reducing cost, risk and time to market.

3GSM highlights include keynotes from HP executives and partners, strategic sessions, various management and technical sessions, as well as a first look at new solutions for network and service providers.

HP brings to market hundreds of service applications via a large ecosystem of 500+ partners. Many of these will be showcased at 3GSM. HP Labs is making large R&D investments in mobile technology and will be demonstrating some of the latest concepts that may well shape tomorrow's mobile world.

Going Wireless
HP brings to both enterprises and consumers an exciting array of wireless devices: notebook PCs, Tablet PCs, and handheld devices such as the iPAQ Pocket PC, most of which have built-in capability for WiFi hotspots and other wide-area wireless technologies.

An excellent example is the iPAQ Mobile Messenger which is geared towards mobile professionals who want access to their e-mail and business data seamlessly and securely, whether they are in the office or on the road.

- Multiple messaging capabilities so you stay in touch the way you want.
- Exchange 2003: Synchronizes your Outlook inbox, calendar, contacts, and tasks so you can remotely check your appointments and other important information.
- Picture and Video Messaging: Capture and share moments as they happen with MMS messages.
- Text Messaging: SMS messages are quick, easy and a discrete way to communicate. - Instant Messaging: Communication in real time.
- Multiple inbox capabilities: Instantly access all of your e-mail accounts and take care of business wherever you are.

- Integrated GPS receiver in the iPAQ and GPS Navigation application powered by TomTom gives you driving directions at your fingertips to get you where you need to go.
– Turn-by-turn navigation to nearby restaurants, hotels, airports, movie theaters, gas stations, museums and many other points of interest.
– Maps are available for most cities in the United States, Canada and Western Europe.

"Wireless e-mail has experienced rapid growth over the last 12 months and will remain the foundation of business mobility over the next few years. HP has strong confidence in the future of wireless services that go far beyond wireless e-mail. We entered the converged device market in Q3 2004 and since then we are continuing to strongly expand our business,” comments Regine Hohnsbein, Director, Handhelds and Mobility, Personal Systems Group (PSG), Europe, Middle East & Africa (EMEA).

Bob Silverman, CIO of Spring Group plc - one of the UK’s largest recruitment organisations – says he can minimise the 'dead time' of costly senior executives with HP iPAQ Pocket PCs. “Our staff have found their new HP iPAQs indispensable; their speed and efficiency has led to greater flexibility and productivity. After just two hours with his device one director commented that he couldn’t live without it.”

According to Hohnsbein, “the huge success of our HP iPAQ Mobile Messenger hw6500 series proves we're on the right path, combining advanced wireless capabilities and integrated GPS navigation functionality with strong partnerships for wireless e-mail and services."
